Claroty Makes History as First SAFETY Act-Certified OT Security Vendor

/ / 2 min read

We're thrilled to share that Claroty has made history as the first OT security provider to be certified by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Support Anti-Terrorism by Fostering Effective Technologies (SAFETY) Act. Enacted by U.S. Congress in 2002, the SAFETY Act was created to encourage the development and deployment of counterterrorism technologies.

Founded with the goal of providing technologies that secure the availability, safety, and reliability of the operational technology (OT) networks central to oil & gas, energy, utilities, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, food & beverage, and countless other sectors worldwide, Claroty is a natural fit for this U.S. government initiative.

For Claroty customers, the implications of this milestone SAFETY Act certification include several key benefits:

  • Protection against lawsuits or claims: In the event of a cyber-terrorist attack, the SAFETY Act creates a system of risk and litigation management protections that extend to providers and users of approved technologies from liabilities. Now that The Claroty Platform has been recognized as a SAFETY Act-approved technology, users affected by a cyber-terrorist attack will benefit from these protections.

  • Rigorous third-party vetting of The Claroty Platform: In order to receive certification under the SAFETY Act, Claroty's solutions underwent rigorous review and vetting by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Claroty's ability to hold up under this high level of scrutiny substantiates Claroty's industry leadership and ability to deliver the highest caliber of OT security.

  • Validation of OT security as a critical line of defense: Every company in the world relies on operational technology (OT), yet despite this ubiquity, OT has historically seen a stark disparity in terms of security resources when compared to IT. As adversaries are increasingly targeting OT environments to cause disruption and advance geopolitical agendas, Claroty's milestone recognition as the first OT security vendor certified under the SAFETY act is a testament to increased urgency to bridge the IT-OT cybersecurity gap.

The following solutions—which comprise The Claroty Platform—have officially been certified by the U.S. DHS to meet the requirements of the SAFETY Act:

  • Continuous Threat Detection (CTD): Delivers full-spectrum IoT and OT visibility, continuous security monitoring, and real-time risk insights with zero impact to operational processes and underlying devices.

  • xDome Secure Access: Safeguards OT networks from threats introduced via unmanaged and unmonitored access by remote users, including employees and third-party vendors.

  • Enterprise Management Console: Simplifies management at scale, consolidating data from Claroty products and providing a unified view of assets, activities, and alerts across multiple sites.
